Organisational Skills – Junior 3

Dear Parents,

During our Organisational skills lesson this week we stressed the point of starting H.W. as early as possible when we arrive home and to take note of the time taken to finish our work.  This exercise should help the children be more organised in their work and also help them in the future when they will need to revise for exams.

As Ms. Marguerite already told you, this year Junior 3s will have INFORMAL assessments.  Whilst some revision is recommended ALL through the year, please do not put any unnecessary stress on your children.  Learning time should be an enjoyable experience and not a stressful one.

May I also remind you that students should be bringing to school ONLY the books they need for the day. This includes H.W.  This means that for example if Religion or C.E. lessons are on a particular day, the h.w. should be brought to school on the day of the lesson, according to the time-table.  I kindly ask for your co-operation to this matter, as children need to learn how to organise their bags and h.w. time.

I wish you all a very happy weekend

Ms Jackie

Organisational Skills Junior 4

Dear Parents,

This week during our Organisational skills lesson we discussed the Junior 4 Exam Time-table and how we can plan our time for revision.  The students were given the task to keep to the estimated time the teacher gives to finish their h.w.  They and were also given a study plan as a guideline.

A copy of the study plan is found hereunder for you to edit and customize as needed.

Weekly study plan

Kindly remember that the children need a break of a couple of minutes for them to focus on their work.  This could be just a couple of minutes to allow them to stretch their legs.

Hope that this helps.

Happy weekend

Ms Jackie

Making a difference

Dear Parents,

During these first days of the second term our Ethics topic was ‘Making a difference’.  We have had intense discussions and watched short films to help us become aware of the change a little act of kindness can make to the world around us.

As you know, the children were asked to check the cost of the food they like to eat or of any food they find easily at home.  This exercise was meant to help the children realize that what they take for granted, maybe even throw away, costs money and that other children their own age do not even dream about.  Unfortunately even in our island Malta there are children who do not find milk in their fridge, who do not find a warm meal when they arrive from school.

I am so happy with the outcome of the last lesson when the children themselves came up with the point  that what we all take for granted is a luxury to others. They even pointed out that to be kind we do not need to give costly donations but humble, simple things that we use everyday, like milk, rice, pasta, bread, tissues, water, toilet paper.

Here are two short video clips that we have watched in class and that have helped us open our minds and reflect :
